Acupuncture for Pre-Birth

pre-birth

Pre-Birth acupuncture is recommended  to promote and enhance a healthy and natural labour.  Acupuncture treatment can help to strengthen and boost energy, nourish blood in the body, soften the ligaments and enhance further preparation of the cervix.  A weekly pre birth acupuncture treatment starting at 36 weeks pregnancy until delivery is a benefit in enhancing spontaneous labour and reducing the incidence of medical induction.  Data from an observational study by 14 New Zealand midwives, over 169 pregnant women who had received routine pre birth acupuncture treatment was collected by Debra Betts, a Registered Nurse and Acupuncturist.  The data has highlighted that pregnant women who had Pre-Birth acupuncture treatment experienced an efficient labour, a reduced length of labour and medical intervention of using epidural.

Traditional Chinese Acupuncture can help to promote the general well being of the mental, emotional and physical state.  This in turn can give women more self-confidence to deal with pregnancy and childbirth.

Acupuncture  has now been introduced as part of the maternity service at Whittington Hospital in London.  The feedback from  their patients has further highlighted how acupuncture treatment can be beneficial as part of the preparation for childbirth.
